5 Foods That Kill Cancer And Help the Body Destroy Tumors without Any Drugs

Certain proteins within our immune system hold the precise instructions needed to destroy cancerous tumors. In a healthy body, this inherent ability is always present and always effective without the use of drugs. However, these proteins can be rendered ineffective if cells experience uncontrolled growth though damage or mutations to DNA or if toxins through food and chemical pollution override the immune system's natural function. Researchers from Pennsylvania State University have finally helped identify and support previous evidence which demonstrated how foods suppress tumor development during immune surveillance, the immune system's process of patrolling the body for cancer cells.

Those who subscribe to conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation have little understanding of how powerful the body is at healing itself if left to its own devices with the right nutrition.

found that healthy cells damaged by chemotherapy secreted more of a protein which boosts cancer cell survival. Chemotherapy has been proven to cause cancer cells to interact with nearby tumor cells and cause them to grow, invade, and importantly, resist subsequent therapy.

In a study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, scientists identified a molecule, known as TIC10, which activates a protein that helps fight the disease. The protein, called TRAIL (tumor-necrosis-factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand) suppresses tumor development it can actually cross the blood-brain barrier, which separates the main circulatory system from the brain.

Through the body's infinite wisdom, its systems recognize foreign invaders and poisons such as chemotherapy which are not beneficial for the brain. Many cancer drugs are consequently blocked from passing the blood-brain barrier. However, TRAIL is permitted passage due to its beneficial effects on the immune system.

Another positive is that TIC10 does not just activate the TRAIL gene in cancerous cells, but also in healthy ones. This is known as the 'bystander effect' - i.e. where cells near cancerous cells are also killed.

Nearby healthy cells are also given a boost to increase the number of cancer-killing TRAIL receptors on their cell surface.

The key is to not succumb to selective cancer therapy or drug treatments based on clinical trials with artificially created versions of the protein.

Food is the body's medicine, not drugs. All you need to do is seek those powerful foods which naturally inhibit tumor necrosis factor (TNF) of which there is several.

1. Turmeric

Curcumin, possibly the most powerful antioxidant known from the popular Indian spice Turmeric, has countless health benefits. A recent study led by a research team in Munich showed that it can also inhibit formation of metastases.

Curcumin exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects by inhibiting tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), suggesting that its effect on endothelial function may be mediated by the suppression of inflammation and/or oxidative stress via down-regulation of TNF-alpha.

One of the most comprehensive summaries of a review of 700 turmeric studies to date was published by the respected ethnobotanist James A. Duke, Phd. He showed that turmeric appears to outperform many pharmaceuticals in its effects against several chronic, debilitating diseases, and does so with virtually no adverse side effects.

2. Grapes and Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a phenolic compound that contributes to the antioxidant potential of red grapes.

Resveratrol is not only an antioxidant and antimutagen, but also reduces oxidant-caused cell death. Resveratrol has been shown to inhibit production of nitric oxide and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-A) by lipopolysaccharide-stimulated Kuppfer cells. Kuppfer cells are macrophages fixed in place in the liver. Their chronic overproduction of nitric oxide and TNF-A due to chronic infection can cause severe liver damage.

Perhaps Resveratrol's most important property is its ability to inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (CoX-2). CoX-2 is related to cancers and abnormal growths in the intestinal tract. Natural CoX-2 inhibitors such as resveratrol have been shown to reduce the occurrence of cancers and pre-cancerous growths. So while pharmaceutical companies race to find complex agents that inhibit CoX-2, the ingredient is already present in red grapes which if consumed daily (or via organic grape juice) will protect against tumors naturally.

3. Green Tea

The health benefits of green tea are due to the presence of a group of plant flavonoids called catechins. Of particular interest to researchers is epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate (EGCG), the primary catechin in green tea. For example, South Korean researchers have found that EGCG blocks TNF naturally by interfering with the ability of certain pro-inflammatory chemicals to bind to cells of smooth muscle tissue of the vascular system. In a 2009 study conducted by the Chonbuk National University Medical School, it was noted that the specific mechanism of action of EGCG in terms of blocking TNF is the suppression of fractalkine, an inflammatory agent specifically involved in the development of arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries.

4. Tomatoes

Regular consumption of tomato and its products is being consistently associated with lower risk of several types of cancer and, to a lesser extent, coronary heart disease. Among the many tomato components credited with healthful properties, carotenoids and particularly lycopene are being actively investigated.

Modest effects of the regular intake of a tomato juice provide small amounts of carotenoids which were found on the production of inflammatory mediators, such as TNF-alpha. TNF-alpha production by whole blood was found to be more than 30% lower after almost a month of consuming raw tomato juice.

5. Raw Fruits and Veggies

There is sufficient evidence to indicate that a diet consisting of foods high in natural antioxidants such as raw fruits and vegetables provide anti-inflammatory benefits. The higher the intake the more they are associated with significant reductionsin levels of markers of inflammation, including C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha).

Any fruits or vegetables (preferably dark colored) which are a good source of indole-3-carbinol, a chemical that boosts DNA repair in cells, blocks the growth of cancer cells. A team of researchers at Ohio State University announced that anthocyanins, the compounds that give cabbage its purple color are capable of cutting the growth of colon cancer cells both in vitroand in rats by 50%-100%, with certain extracts even destroying up to 20% of the cancer cells while leaving healthy surrounding cells intact.

Did You Know? Black Women Played a Role In Every War Effort In U.S. History

Did You Know? Black Women Played a Role In Every War Effort In U.S. History

It is very rare that you’ll find information written about African-American women’s roles in every war effort in U.S. history. Until recently, knowledge of their heroic contributions was severely limited, but that has changed since Indiana-based Buffalo Soldiers Research Museum unveiled pictures and information about the women.

They endured physical discomfort and personal criticism, while many of their contributions were unrecognized and unrewarded. They placed themselves in danger’s path – offering their abilities and strengths to preserve values and ensure freedom,” wrote S.A. Sheafer in the book “Women in America’s Wars.”

Inspired by the promise of freedom from slavery, some women courageously worked as spies during the Revolutionary War. Others, as narrated by former slave-turned-author Lucy Terry, disguised themselves as men and fought side by side with them against the British. In the Spanish-American War and World War I, black women served valiantly as nurses and in other support roles. A list of the women and their contribution(s) are listed below.

Harriet Tubman

Served as a Union spy , volunteer nurse, and armed scout. Because of her various contributions, she reportedly acquired the name “General Tubman” from soldiers.

Susan Taylor King

Another former slave, joined the all-black First South Carolina Volunteers unit as a nurse, and later started a school for children and soldiers.

Cathay Williams

After being freed from a Missouri plantation, Williams was pressed into service during the Civil War by Union forces. Williams signed up for service in November 1866, giving her name as William Cathay and passing as a man. Before falling ill and having her gender revealed, Williams served as a Buffalo Soldier with the 38th U.S. Infantry Regiment for two years — more than 80 years before women were allowed to officially enlist in the peacetime Army.

Maj. Charity Adams

The first black officer of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. Adams commanded the first all-black female unit, the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. “Every single piece of mail that went to Europe passed through this postal battalion,” said filmmaker Frank Martin, whose 2010 documentary, “For Love of Liberty: The Story of America’s Black Patriots,” lauds the service of Maj. Adams’ 855-member battalion. Maj. Adams spent the last year of the war clearing backlogs of mail, first in Birmingham, England, and then Rouen, France.

Army Nurse Corps Maj. Marie Rogers

Maj. Rogers was awarded the Bronze Star by President Lyndon Johnson for distinguished service. In 1948, the dynamics of black women in the military changed when President Harry Truman signed the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which permitted women to join the regular Army and later issued Executive Order 9981, which ended segregation in the military. Following Truman’s executive order, an increasing number of African-American women — volunteers, mostly nurses — served in Vietnam.

Diane Lindsay

Was the first black female nurse to receive the Soldier’s Medal of Heroism. She was later promoted to captain. Lindsay was of the 95th Evacuation Hospital.

Lt. Phoebe Jeter

Ordered her all-male platoon to fire a battery of Patriot missiles at incoming Iraqi Scud missiles, downing at least two of them. It was the first and only such feat by a female officer in the war.

U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Michele Howard

The first African-American woman to command a Navy combat ship, made news in 2009 when it was involved in the rescue of the merchant ship Maersk Alabama’s captain from Somali pirates.

It is clear to all of us that women are contributing in unprecedented ways to the military’s mission of defending the nation,” said Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in January, when he lifted a ban preventing women from serving in combat. “They serve, they’re wounded and they die right next to each other. The time has come to recognize that reality.” Today, black women are well represented in the armed forces. An estimated 40% of the 35,000 women active in Operation Desert Storm were African-Americans.

How Bank of America avoids paying taxes by Senator Bernie Sanders

Sen. Bernie Sanders: A Choice for Corporate America: Are You With America or the Cayman Islands?

February 9, 2013 10:22:35
When the greed, recklessness, and illegal behavior on Wall Street drove this country into the deepest recession since the 1930s, the largest financial institutions in the United States took every advantage of being American. They just loved their country -- and the willingness of the American people to provide them with the largest bailout in world history. In 2008, Congress approved a $700 billion gift to Wall Street. Another $16 trillion in virtually zero interest loans and other financial assistance came from the Federal Reserve. America. What a great country.

But just two years later, as soon as these giant financial institutions started making record-breaking profits again, they suddenly lost their love for their native country. At a time when the nation was suffering from a huge deficit, largely created by the recession that Wall Street caused, the major financial institutions did everything they could to avoid paying American taxes by establishing shell corporations in the Cayman Islands and other tax havens.

In 2010, Bank of America set up more than 200 subsidiaries in the Cayman Islands (which has a corporate tax rate of 0.0 percent) to avoid paying U.S. taxes. It worked. Not only did Bank of America pay nothing in federal income taxes, but it received a rebate from the IRS worth $1.9 billion that year. They are not alone. In 2010, JP Morgan Chase operated 83 subsidiaries incorporated in offshore tax havens to avoid paying some $4.9 billion in U.S. taxes. That same year Goldman Sachs operated 39 subsidiaries in offshore tax havens to avoid an estimated $3.3 billion in U.S. taxes. Citigroup has paid no federal income taxes for the last four years after receiving a total of $2.5 trillion in financial assistance from the Federal Reserve during the financial crisis.

V Max Weight Vest Review by Todney Harris

My good friend Sedric Veazey can be credited with the use of this essential piece of training equipment.  He bought one of these VMax weight vests two years ago.  He and I train together as often as we can.  He brought the vest to the gym during one of our sessions.  I used it for a few days and I was officially hooked.  At this juncture, I have my own personal vest but have used it sparingly as of late.  I will make it a point to make this piece of equipment a priority in the training regime as it once was. If anyone is interested in purchasing a quality vest, here is the website exchange

I know that some people might look at the price and balk at it but I do want to state for the record that the weights are removable.  The exchange of weight allows for flexibility in your training routine.  People who are just beginning should remove as much weight from the vest that they are comfortable using.  As your strength and stamina improve you can gradually add weight back to the vest.  It has helped me greatly in the past and it will help me greatly in the future.  I have been doing this for so long that I realize that I need to shake things up in my routine to stay motivated.  I don’t offer any excuses.  I am going to try and do the best that I can to stay in decent shape.
One last thing, don't forget to get a decent pair of leather workout gloves.  Gloves will help to keep your hands in decent shape as well.

So What's the Real Solution to Fitness Problems?

This is a post from Monterey News Journal

So What’s the Real Solution to Fitness Problems?

Motivation is the Key! Oh, yes, everyone will speak about diet plans, fitness programs, and all that you can do in order to look and feel better. But what most doctors do not explain when you step on that scale and feel as if the only way to get out of the disappointment you now feel is by eating twenty cheeseburgers or a bag of candy, is how exactly you find the motivation to look and feel better.

No one – and I mean, NO ONE – needs a psychologist, medical doctor, psychiatrist, or even Oprah, to tell them that they need to find motivation within themselves in order to actually stick to a diet plan or fitness program. In fact, when the New Year’s resolution comes upon us next week and, yet again, over 50% of us resolve to lose weight in 2013, 49.9% of that 50% will have a cheeseburger before January 2, 2013 dawns. Why is this? Because life continues (yes, Mayan theorists, life will continue), and the pressures, tension, stress and everything else will return on January 1st and the ball dropping will be but a memory.

So how is it done? How do you keep the promise to yourself that you will look better and feel better in 2013? Well, you need to find someone – a company, a blog, a friend – who will stand by you and offer you the support and information you need on everything from ‘Top Fitness Trends’ to vitamins that are necessary to increase your strength and stamina and protect your heart from all the ‘bad’ cholesterol that’s roaming around in all your daily foods.

What ‘friend’ am I speaking about? Better Way Health, a company that has been tried and true when it comes to information, honesty,
and the creation, promotion and distribution of the best (and necessary) products that will enable you to keep that resolution and
live your life in a happier, healthier way.

It is the American College of Sports Medicine’s Health & Fitness that recently released a new survey of fitness trends that will be spoken
about a great deal in 2013. And it is body-weight training that includes the ‘back-to-basics’ exercises, like push-ups and pull-ups,
that is expected to be THE fitness trend that people turn towards in their time of need.

More and more people are going to drop the ‘latest fads’ in equipment and fitness facilities; they are going to stop the DVD programs of the exercises that basically can kill you heart just as fast as the bad cholesterol can, and go back to what fitness professionals prescribed over a decade ago. In other words, they will head back to ‘simpler’ times in order to feel better again. And for those who disbelieve this theory, it is the career of
‘health and fitness professional’ that is being touted as the top career in 2013. Jobs for fitness workers are expected to rise far faster than other occupations (U.S. Labor Department), and it’s because of the fact that strength training and ‘normal’ fitness
programs will be back. The bare minimum of equipment will be used, as the age-old push-ups, pull-ups and squats in the living room return.

From dealing with obesity in the schools to promoting fitness programs for the aging ‘baby boomer’ generation, these are the types of diet and exercise programs that will be utilized. And these are all good and healthy things to bring back into peoples’ lives; they are simplistic programs that will offer an ‘ease’ to working out, and will allow you to keep the resolution you make on December 31, 2012 when the clock strikes midnight. HOWEVER, the subject of motivation is still a concern.

One of the most talked about reasons for not getting fit is how unbelievably hard it seems. It creates an overwhelming amount of stress when thinking about how to lose weight, but if you can get rid of the excuses – if you can find that personal motivation that’s inside of you – you CAN do it! Especially during a time period where the old is now new once again…and it WORKS!

There are all kinds of benefits to getting in shape – reasons that doctor’s will go on and on about. BUT, what is your personal motivation? Live longer so that you can see your children grow up? Once you find that – that small piece of ‘inner’ motivation – it is a fact that you can get up and take a walk after dinner. You can do this with your kid(s) beside you, and you not only feel better by becoming active, but you also show that ‘good role model’ that your children need to see.

And, everyone says this but they never remember this – realistic goals have to be set. Do NOT think that the only way to lose weight is overnight, which means you must kill yourself at a gym for two hours a day. This is SO not true. For the first two weeks, stick to the after-dinner walk. Then, and only then, maybe increase the walk a little bit, like thirty minutes, where you can talk to your kids about their day at school and share some time. If you go into exercise with the thought that you MUST do something, then your motivation will surely collapse.

This is a New Year. This is a brand new resolution. So take the time to do what you ‘love’ to do in order to get fit – from walking your
dog to playing with your kids. This IS exercise. And THIS will work!

Make that resolution! Because this time around, you’ll achieve your goal!

Schools and for Profit Managers Don't Mix by Sarah Carr

Schools and for-profit managers don't mix, skeptics say

By Sarah Carr and Annie Gilbertson, The Hechinger Report

JACKSON, Miss. -- When state officials here tried last year to recruit a for-profit company to manage schools in rural Tate County, the community outcry was swift. Concerned residents spoke out in the media, argued their case to lawmakers and circulated a petition against the “privatization” of Tate County Schools.

Patricia Johnson, whose son attends a public high school in the county, described the proposal as “crazy.” For-profit companies, she said, shouldn’t be “getting paid” to run things when parents are having to buy copy paper for teachers in cash-strapped schools.

At first glance, Mississippi would seem an unlikely source of resistance to school privatization. But this year, a coalition of lawmakers and community groups is fighting vigorously against the prospect of for-profit companies opening up charter schools.

“I think people have been astounded that anyone can make money off of public education,” said Nancy Loome, executive director of The Parents’ Campaign, which lobbies for public education in Mississippi. “Our schools struggle to make it on the resources they are provided. If (for-profit management is) trying to make a profit and pay shareholders, they aren’t going to be investing very much in educating children.”

This fierce resistance in Mississippi is but the latest example of waning interest in for-profit school managers across the country. Charter schools of all types continue to spread rapidly. But schools managed by for-profit companies make up a smaller share than they did just a few years ago.

In Mississippi, the debate comes as lawmakers are poised to approve a major expansion of charter schools later this month. At the same time, renewed attention to the state’s lagging test scores and overall woeful performance in education is fueling debate about alternative ways of running schools.

Weapons and Ammunition by Todney Harris

Weapons and ammunition have garnered the attention of America.  As of now, it is the number one issue that is appearing on the landscape of America’s political and social agenda.  Gun violence has been a hotly debated issue due to the high rate of homicides, suicides and gang related violence.  However, the tragedy at Sandy Hook School in Newton Connecticut has thrust the issue of gun violence into the national spotlight.

I just want to state for the record that this particular issue is very important to me.  I have been contemplating for quite some time whether I should respond to the tragedy at Sandy Hook.  As an African American male and an educator, this particular issue has personal relevance.  I am not referring to the issue of mental illness. My family and I have no history of mental impropriety whatsoever.   I am referring to the issue of gun violence that exists in the African American communities across America. As a youth, gun violence existed within my community.  I was not one of those children affected by gun violence.  My parents did an excellent job of shielding my siblings and I from it.  However, I was very aware of its existence and its effects on people.

Most people in America are very aware of gun violence.  Gangs and psychopaths have been engaging in behaviors which have resulted in fatalities for many years.  However, many people haven’t made a personal connection due to the fact that gun violence hasn’t affected them in a personal way.  I must agree that it is one thing to see it on the news and feel sorry for those families that have been affected by tragedy.  Once the human massacre occurred at Sandy Hook, the tragedy went from some obscure event to a very personal and emotional event.  Furthermore, as an educator, the tragedy has come very close to home.

I just want to state for the record that I am not a proponent of arming educators.  I think that the president of the NRA has completely lost his mind.  Arming teachers is seriously not the answer.  Furthermore, repealing the second amendment is also not the answer.  The founding fathers of America gave citizens the Bill of Rights as a measure of protection from the tyranny of the federal government.  The core of our government focuses on the health of its citizenry.  It is why power is divided and shared in America.  There is no basis for repeal of the second amendment.  The blame should be placed on the moral decay of society’s people.  The NRA has used its influence to keep guns and ammunition flowing freely.  I don’t understand why high powered weapons are sold at department stores like WalMart.  I say make the bullets so expensive that purchasing bullets will have to be a fiscal decision.  Remember, people kill people, not weapons and machinery.  Unfortunately, man has found a way to bring harm to his fellow man.
